Freshly tuned Bösendorfer Imperial
Actually, it needed pitch lowering from 444 to 443Hz. I have no idea who could come up with such a stupid idea - and leaving the top two octaves at 443Hz.

After 4 days of filming, regulation and voicing this 1887 Steinway D finally came a lot closer to what it eventually be. By no means perfect, it needs playing, another tuning and a second session of voicing to bring out more overtones

Strictly Work in Progress. Recorded on an 1887 Steinway D using four omni condensers, one pair right at the piano and one pair back in the room. Recorded, mixed and edited with Ardour, Audacity and kdenlive. The piano is still a diamond in the rough, needs full work on regulation and voicing.

Recorded on a freshly restored (not refurbished or rebuilt) unique Steinway D from 1887, hammers are original, have a little wear and need voicing. Dampers need regulation. Piano has a third front duplex scale and bridge pins at an angle, so strings within a unison have a different speaking length. Action is all original, soundboard is original with some careful repairs and original coating. CI...

First recording after pitch raise to 443Hz. Known problems: damper regulation, worn hammers that need re-shaping and voicing, both for evenness and elasticity for best dynamic range, una corda adjustment not sufficient and learning to tune a piano with unisons of different speaking lengths. Other than that, a beautiful piano that is unique in the way it has been preserved (original action and h...

To my knowledge this is the only surviving Steinway D built between 1884 and 1892 that still is in its original condition. It has carefully been restored (not rebuilt, refurbished or completely stripped of its innards.) Original set of hammers, original 1887 action. Fully intact original bridges, carefully refined shellac surface, one-piece ivory keys (with CITES certification) and two outstand...

First recording of the Bösendorfer 225 with introducing new attempts of improving the sound of the room while at the same time trying to insulate it from the neighbor's rooms. Right now it's just two rugs with long fibers, foam casters for the leg wheels. Above all it's a 2cm layer of foam elements between ribs (soundboard) and the wooden structural element as part of the rim to keep the whole ...

Quick and dirty recording with an Olympus OM-D EM-1 Mark II and external electric stereo microphones directly fed into the camera. Recorded at the Palais Palffy in Central Vienna on a Hailun HG 218 semi concert grand that I had just finished tuning (pitch raise by 2Hz, now 438Hz, tomorrow two more tuning sessions to 443Hz.)

Most simple set up the Olympus Camera and external electret condenser microphones, so post-processing whatsoever. Capsules of the microphone are 1,50m apart and about the same distance to the piano. On the camera, under Movie settings - one needs to enable Plug-In Power and (counterintuitively) set "Camera Rec. Volume" to "Inoperative. That way the condenser microphone bypass all audio processi...

I would have kept that thing at 434. Older pianos are from a time when music was true, pitches were true, and uniformity hadn't yet tainted the instrument pool. Now everything sounds remarkably the same. Beautiful performance or a gorgeous piece; sounds excellent on that instrument.

Marvellous! The DG album of CK recordings with VPO (Vienna Phil) is a gem: it includes the all-time best performance of Beethoven’s Fifth (visit 10 musicologist sites, this performance will top the list in 9 of them), one of the top recordings of Beethoven’s Seventh (in my opinion, right next to Toscanini’s 1937 recording with NY Phil), and Schubert’s Unfinished, which you will find praised everywhere.

"During the screening of the last act, Kleiber and Zeffirelli heard a hopelessly sobbing Bernstein overcome by beauty and fear. He burst out to Kleiber: “You are a god. You are a god!” Kleiber was deeply embarrassed and asked him to calm down." (From "Corresponding with Carlos" by Charles Barber). Any further proof that C. Kleiber was the greatest conductor of them all?

Time to quit listening to critics that say Beethoven was better at writing symphonies with odd numbers. I listened many times to 3,5,7 and of course the Ninth, but 6,8 and now the Fourth are beautiful. What a fantastic performance in a great setting.

Nobody gets close to this version of this concerto. I heard it from many other pianists, but there is nothing to say: Martha is Martha. She is a master of the pedal and piano and virtuosic, with passion and emotion in her playing. THE SOUND IS SO POWERFUL AND EMOTIONAL WITH MARTHA. SHE ENCAPSULATES LISZT SOUL. And 19:34 what else left to say. Her tempo is always amazingly uncontrollable

I am fortunate to have become the owner of a Model IV built 1900. Sold by the London Bechstein dealer and has been in the US for at least several decades. Mahogany case. Restored (year unknown). I was amazed upon hearing the unique " european " sound/overtones/ resonance that I have heard from Bechstein/ Bosendorfer etc in the UK , Germany, Austria. I wrongly attributed this difference to room/ concert hall acoustics or possible tuning or voicing by EU technicians. Other makers, including Steinway now sound comparatively harsh or weak, especially in higher registers. The action is light and very responsive. It is way above my grade/level but has inspired me to, one day, deserve this masterpiece.

If the London dealer is JS then you have a factory rebuilt piano with all its innards replaced with modern material, from action, hammers, felt to polyester finish. Mine is a true restoration with all parts original including the tied action and a shellac finish.
